New municipal library. Vera. Almeria.
It is intended that the projected library will be a reference as a center for information, training and self-learning, promotion of reading, support for education and research, being also a meeting place as a social center of information, open to new technologies and open to all social sectors. It should also be a leisure space linked to the consumption of cultural goods, turning this facility into a place of participation and exchange of cultural and recreational activities. The overall design of the building is based on its unique position in relation to its surroundings. The width of the central promenade allows and makes it possible to recognize the entire volumetry of the building. For this reason, special care has been taken to generate an exterior geometry of the building that is recognizable, capable of representing the public and emblematic character of the building, but at the same time integrating itself into the built environment through an appropriate scale and a volumetry that dialogues with the immediate surroundings. Therefore, the building is conceived as a set of textured and maculated volumes, compositionally placed in a staggered manner, between which the accesses and the relationship between the interior and exterior spaces will be produced. This interior-exterior relationship of the building does not occur directly, but through semi-covered transition spaces formalized by three large pergolas linked respectively to: main access, exit to the courtyard from the hall and exit to the courtyard from the multipurpose room. The position of the silent volumes is located on the north side of the plot, protected from the main road by the buffer provided by the central courtyard and noisier volumes of lower height.
